DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tonight’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues on both teams.
Detroit has not played since December 18 due to the virus.
The Red Wings are scheduled to host the Washington Capitals New Year’s Eve.
Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand is openly criticizing the NHL’s decision to opt out of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing due to COVID postponements. Marchand tweeted a statement Tuesday that questioned the logic behind the NHL and NHLPA adding taxi squads to supplement rosters missing players due to COVID protocols while refusing to do the same for the Olympics.
Marchand believes that players should have been given the choice to forfeit their pay in order to play at the Olympics.
