DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Red Wings’ season has been put on pause amid numerous COVID-19 positive tests within the organization.
The Red Wings are off the ice through Christmas break. Detroit was originally scheduled to face the Colorado Avalanche tonight. Detroit’s next scheduled game is against the Rangers in New York December 27.
The NHL and its players’ association are announcing that cross-border games will be postponed for the upcoming week. The announcement Sunday comes as the league takes on a rising number of COVID-19 cases. Twelve games that would have taken place between Monday and Thursday are affected by the decision.
The statement added that a final determination on whether NHL players will participate in the 2022 Beijing Olympics will also be coming soon.
