BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — “During this pandemic, you were the people that helped feed America.”
Two-time democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont showed up in support of striking Kellogg’s workers in Battle Creek on Friday.
During his 10 minute speech, Sanders praised the more than 1,300 workers that have been on strike now for 10 weeks for better working conditions and to end a two-tier pay system that guarantees lower wages for new workers.
“I’m standing here today, because you have had the incredible courage right here, to take on corporate greed.”
Officials say a tentative deal to bring back Kellogg cereal workers is in place, but workers say their strike will continue until they at the Battle Creek plant along with three others across the U.S., take a vote to make it official.
During the first months of the pandemic, Kellogg’s employees worked 12-hour shifts for multiple days in a row resulting in a 25% increase in annual profit for the company.
