MIDDLEVILLE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – No one was injured Saturday morning as high winds peeled back the roof of a Barry County high school gym just before a cheerleading competition was set to begin.
Around 9:00 a.m. Saturday the winds rolled back the roof of the competition gym at Thornapple Kellogg High School, 3885 Bender Road in Middleville.
Interim Superintendent Craig McCarthy told MLive “As soon as our staff heard the roof starting to peel back, they got everyone out of the gym and ended up cancelling the event.”
McCarthy said it is too soon to estimate the cost of the damage, though it appears extensive. A roofing contractor is expected at the school Sunday.
In the meantime, tarps have been put down to protect the floor from water damage.
