LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Tuesday that Michigan would drop a federal lawsuit against a Canadian oil company over a pipeline that crosses the Straits of Mackinac and would focus on a lawsuit filed in state court.
The motion to voluntarily dismiss a federal lawsuit against Enbridge over the Line 5 pipeline was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan. The move comes after the court denied a request to move the case back to state court in November.
In June 2019 Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed a lawsuit in Michigan court to shut down Line 5 and is looking to restart litigation.
Canada became involved in the dispute over the Michigan pipeline in October and officials invoked a 1977 treaty that would suspend the case in the state.
