MATTAWAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Republican candidate for Michigan governor from Kalamazoo County says he raised $495,974 in the latest reporting period, bringing his total fundraising haul since his announcement in April to $1,121,082.
Garrett Soldano, a Kalamazoo chiropractor who lives in Mattawan, says his campaign received 19,420 donations in the latest reporting period, with 97.2% being small dollar donations under $200.
Saldano says contributions came almost exclusively from Michigan residents, making up 98.2% of all donations. He says the support comes despite a 60-day suspension from Facebook and a ban from YouTube.
He is an original founder of the group “Stand Up Michigan,” and was a Co-Chair of the Unlock Michigan campaign to limit the Governor’s executive powers. He is one of at least six declared Republican candidates looking to challenge current Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2022.
