KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Navy Seaman 1st Class Wesley Graham is expected to return home after 80 years to be buried.
The Watervliet native was among 429 crewmen who died on the USS Oklahoma during the Pearl Harbor attacks on Dec. 7, 1941.
Graham’s remains were identified on June 5, 2020, and is expected to be buried on Oct. 27 in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
Graham’s duties included taking care of the garbage, repairing equipment and performing deck duties such as painting and cleaning. He also stood watch as lookout, was also a messenger and part of a gun crew.
His awards include the Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal with Fleet Clasp, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star and a World War II Victory medal.
