OTTAWA ONT CA (WKZO AM/FM) – A lawsuit brought by the state in connection with the Enbridge #5 Pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac may be derailed by Canada.
Canadian officials report that they have invoked a 1977 treaty with the US, which will force the federal government to become involved in the negotiations over the operation of the controversial pipeline.
Both Governor Whitmer and State Attorney General Dana Nessel have repeatedly called for the line’s shutdown, saying it poses a grave threat to the environment.
The US government has yet to respond to the Canadian request.
