DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tempers flared, the benches cleared, and the Chicago White Sox came away with an 8-7 win over the Tigers Monday afternoon in Detroit.
In the top of the ninth inning, Jose Abreu was hit by a pitch and thrown out trying to steal second base. Abreu’s hard slide caused a stir and the benches for both teams cleared. Nobody was ejected.
Dallas Keuchel earned the victory for Chicago after allowing just two runs over five innings.
Yasmani Grandal opened the scoring for the White Sox in a six-run fourth inning with a solo home run. Eloy Jimenez also went yard for Chicago with a two-run shot in the seventh.
Matt Manning was charged with the loss after serving up six runs in three-and-a-third innings. Liam Hendriks closed out the game for his 37th save of the season.
Jonathan Schoop drove in a pair of runs including a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth for the Tigers.
The White Sox are now 89-and-68 while the Tigers slip to 75-and-81. It was the final home game of the season for Detroit.
Detroit is on the road against the Minnesota Twins tonight. The opening pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. EDT.
