Tiger pitcher Matthew Boyd will undergo surgery next week to repair the flexor tendon in his left elbow, avoiding Tommy John surgery and the lengthy rehab it entails. If successful, Boyd could return to the lineup sometime next season. He initially went on the injured list back in June, came back briefly for a pair of starts in August, and has been on the injured list since.
