LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A year of wild weather in Michigan has affected the 2021 apple crop in the state. But it’s not nearly as bad as the aftermath of 2012’s freeze-out.
West Michigan apple production will be down this year. The MSU extension says blame last Spring’s frosts along with fewer blooms on some varieties. Our normal production of 25 million bushels may fall to around 18 million this season.
The reduced supply could translate into somewhat higher prices. Not to worry though, growers assure you there’ll be plenty available for that ‘apple a day’ quota to help keep you healthy. And don’t forget apple cider too…
