CINCINNATI, OH (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers played the role of spoiler Friday night as they pounded the Cincinnati Reds 15-5 in the opener of a three game series.
The Reds currently hold down the second wild card spot in the National League by a half game over San Diego. Four teams are within two games for the last postseason spot in the National League.
The Tigers sent 11 men to the plate during a six run sixth inning to seal the win. Jeimer Candelario and Jonathan Schoop both had four hits in the Tigers’ 18 hit attack which included five home runs. Dustin Garneau had two homers. Schoop, Candelario and Robbie Grossman also homered.
Derek Holland was credited with the win.
The Tigers play at Cincinnati again Saturday night. Matthew Boyd is the scheduled starter for Detroit.
