DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The A’s jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held on to beat the Tigers 8-6 in Detroit. Jed Lowrie hit a three-run bomb and Mark Canha added a solo shot in the first inning and Yan Gomes hit a two-RBI double. Frankie Montas posted seven strikeouts and allowed three earned runs in six-and-two-thirds innings to pick up the win for Oakland, which has won four of its past five games.
Jeimer Candelario hit a three-run blast, Akil Baddoo hit a two-run homer and Harold Castro hit a solo shot. Matt Manning gave up eight runs in three-and-two-thirds innings of work for the Tigers, who have lost five of their last six games.
The Tigers begin an interleague road trip tonight against the Reds. Tyler Alexander gets the start for Detroit against Cincinnati’s Vladimir Gutierrez in the first of a three-game set.
