Irene Van Zanten, age 98, of Holland, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021, and entered heaven’s gate with her family at her side.
Irene grew up in Zeeland and attended New Groningen Schools. During WWII she worked at Faftner Bearing Company while her fiancé and future husband, John Van Zanten, served in the army in Italy. They married after the war and raised three children. Irene loved life and enjoyed her many friendships. She was an avid gardener and beachgoer and was blessed with the gift of hospitality. Later in life, Irene was a treasured resident of Addington Place of Lakeside Vista where she was loved by both fellow residents and staff. Irene was a charter member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, John Van Zanten; son-in-law, John Fisher, Jr; and brothers, Henry Sterken, Bernard and Alma Sterken, and Raymond and Anna Mae Sterken.

Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 26, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland, with Pastor Daniel Walcott officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation is scheduled for 9:00-10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
