GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As the annual Coast Guard Festival winds down this weekend in Grand Haven, locals may be appreciating the event even more.
That’s because of its return in 2021 after a year’s imposed absence due to COVID 19 health protocols, according to Dave Lorenz of Pure Michigan, who is slated to call his 34th festival parade on Saturday (Aug. 7, 2021).
“Just as we see from Tulip Time, and during these other big community events,” he said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly appearance on Friday, “when people come together in this way, it’s not just a celebration to have fun and for entertainment, this is an opportunity to demonstrate what’s truly, uniquely important to your community. For Grand Haven, that does mean this very special connection with the Coast Guard.”
A 4 PM Friday National Coast Guard Memorial Service is slated, along with a Michael Jackson Tribute concert on Friday evening. A complete list of events and more is here, as the festival runs through Sunday.
