Donald Wayne Steketee, 84, of Holland, Michigan, formerly of Fort Myers, Florida, and Newaygo, Michigan, passed away on Monday, August 2.
Donald was born on February 22, 1937, to Leonard Steketee and Nella Smeenge, in Holland, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by both parents, sister Ruth Swift, brother Marv Steketee and grandson David Steketee.
Survived by his wife of 49 years Eleanor (McCleary) Steketee and his children, Trina (Bob) Taylor, Karen (Bob) Robinson), Angel Owen, Nancy Christensen, Brock (Beth) West, Janet (Mitch) Owen, Don (Kristin) Steketee. Don had 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He worked for 28 years with the National Guard and the Holland Armory where he retired as Master Sargent. After retiring, he had his own cleaning service and sold boats.
In his free time, he loved to sing, play his guitar, and loved telling stories of his band days playing with “The Rockets”.
Don and Eleanor enjoyed 49 years together traveling, cruising, boating, camping and traveling in an RV, beaching, and entertaining. Most of all, they loved spending time with their family.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday (August 5) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue. No services are scheduled. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
