COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man who was charged in connection with the April 12 death of a bicyclist north of Kinderhook was booked at the Branch County Jail on Tuesday night and later released on bond.
Prosecuting Attorney Zach Stempien filed charges against 27-year-old Jacob Daniel Ward which accused Ward of driving an S.U.V. that struck a woman’s bicycle as she riding on Old U.S. 27 near Nye Road. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
A spokesperson at the Branch County Jail reports Ward was booked and then released after posting a $100,000 cash/surety bond.
It was not known early this morning when Ward is scheduled to appear for a Branch County District Court arraignment.
A warrant for his arrest was issued by the Branch County Prosecutors Office on May 25.
Ward has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Moving Violation Causing Death, Use of Methamphetamines, and Use of Marijuana.
Michigan State Police investigated the crash.
