DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Red Wings will have a new goalie in net this season after acquiring Alex Nedeljkovic from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Detroit sent goalie Jonathan Bernier and a third round pick in this weekend’s NHL Draft to Carolina. Nedeljkovic made the 2020-21 NHL All-Rookie team and finished third in voting for the Calder Trophy.
The Red Wings and center Michael Rasmussen have agreed to a three-year contract extension. Rasmussen had 12 points and 26 penalty minutes in 40 games for Detroit last season. He was drafted ninth overall by the Wings in 2017.
The Red Wings have the sixth and 23rd picks in tonight’s first round of the NHL Draft. Detroit may select defenseman Simon Edvinsson, forward William Eklund or center Mason McTavish at number six.
The Buffalo Sabres could make University of Michigan defenseman Owen Power the number one overall pick. The draft wraps up tomorrow with rounds two through seven.
