LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A mistake by state unemployment officials is resulting in close to 650,000 applicants being asked to re-submit their paperwork to determine if they are still eligible for benefits.
The Unemployment Insurance Agency sent a letter out to all Michigan residents who may have received benefits for unapproved reasons, and are asking them to fill out the paperwork that may determine their eligibility for an approved reason.
Claimants have a 20-day period to re-file; it is illegal for the state to ask for the money back, but a spokesperson with Michigan United said that state officials might go after it anyway.
