HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s officials have identified the woman found dead after a Holland Township camper fire.
Holland Township resident Laurie Lynn Burgess, 54, had been living in the camper at Drew’s Country Camping 12850 Ransom St., when the fire was discovered just after 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jacob Sparks. She was unemployed at the time of her death, he said.
“The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation,” Sparks wrote an email to WHTC. The Michigan State Police fire marshal’s investigation remains open, so police do not have a definitive answer as to “how the fire started and the circumstances surrounding it.”
Burgess’ cause of death is also unknown at this time, as police are awaiting toxicology test results, some of which can take several weeks, Sparks said in his email.
“There is no evidence that it was anything not associated with the fire,” he added. “Those results will not be available until the toxicology is back….i.e. CO2 level.”
