LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The number of drownings in 2021 is ahead of last year’s totals.
The Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project reports that, as of July 4th, 32 people have drowned in the Great Lakes this year, as opposed to 25 in the same time period last year.
Almost half of this year’s total has occurred in Lake Michigan.
Officials urge those visiting the lakes that, due to no lifeguards being present in many areas, people should be aware of water conditions and pay attention to flag warnings.
