REMUS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Residents across Michigan are still recovering, cleaning up, and sharing stories about their experiences during a weekend severe weather outbreak that caused several tornadoes, damaging winds, and devastating flooding.
Video from Port Austin, a town at the tip of Michigan’s thumb, showed extensive damage after a tornado ripped through the community, knocking down trees and destroying houses. The tornado knocked out power for the area and nearly 700 people still are without electricity
A couple of barns were destroyed by a tornado in the town of Remus in mid-Michigan, forcing nearly 150 cattle to temporarily move to neighboring farms. Owner Chari (Share-ee) Chapin of Chapin Family Farms is grateful for the support. She says one cow was killed and 13 were injured.
About 3,000 homes and businesses in southeast Michigan have been without power since Saturday. DTE Energy’s VP of Distribution Ryan Stowe says flooding in the Dearborn area caused significant damage to two substations. He says those repairs could take several more days while crews work to restore power as soon as possible.
