DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Gas prices in Michigan dropped just two cents from one week ago, but a jump at the pump is expected ahead of the 4th of July weekend.
Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.11 per gallon for regular unleaded, still nearly a dollar more than one year ago.
“With supply and gas demand in sync last week, drivers saw minimal fluctuations in prices,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “However, increasing crude prices, while gas demand remains high, are likely to push pump prices higher ahead of the Independence Day holiday weekend.”
For the holiday, AAA expects 43 million Americans will drive to their destinations. That is the highest on record for this holiday and 5% more than the previous record in 2019. Michigan travel figures are also rebounding from last year.
About 1.4 million Michigan residents are forecast to take a road trip during the holiday weekend. That’s also the most on record and 20% more than the 2020 holiday period.
