DETROIT MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A proposed tunnel to be built in the Straits of Mackinac will now be scrutinized by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The project, to be constructed by Enbridge to house controversial Line #5 under the Straits, will require numerous permits, including the Corps.
Corps officials say that an extensive environmental impact statement will be required for the tunnel, including a study of the plans for it, and any possible alternative plans.
Earlier this year, Governor Whitmer ordered the shutdown of Line #5, citing potential disaster if the pipeline began to leak.
Enbridge has ignored the Governor’s order, and continues to deliver gas and oil through it.
