LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – As SW Michigan residents continue to clean up after weekend storms rolled through the area, manufacturers of gas powered generators are urging those who use them to make sure they do so safely.
Gas powered generators release carbon monoxide, and those who use them are warned to keep the device outside so the fumes can dissipate.
Knowing the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning- headache, dizziness, nausea, drowsiness- can help prevent tragedy, as can having working CO alarms in the house.
In addition, making sure that the exhaust on the generator is pointed away from the house, and keeping it away from doors and windows, can help make using a generator safer.
