DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — If you like to fish, you can catch a Muskie starting this weekend.
Muskie Harvest season kicks off on Saturday and Cory Kovacs with the Michigan DNR says you can only catch one because they are working to protect the population.
“We have facilitated this online Muskie angler survey that has provided us some valuable information to gather size structure and information about population dynamics in each of those water bodies and the Muskie population statewide.”
Kovacs says they are currently taking muskie eggs from the Detroit River, which they will move to their Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery. The program manages about 120 muskie lakes in Michigan.
