Andrew McCutchen homered twice and drove in four runs, Odubel Herrera homered twice, singled and knocked in three runs and the Philadelphia Phillies routed the host Cincinnati Reds 17-3 on Tuesday.
Rhys Hoskins homered, doubled and knocked in three runs and Ronald Torreyes had two hits, including his first home run since 2017, and two RBIs. Matt Joyce hit a grand slam in the ninth inning against Alex Blandino, an infielder, for a 14-run lead.
Alec Bohm had three hits, and Jean Segura and Travis Jankowski added two each for the Phillies, who ripped a season-high 18 hits overall. Phillies starter Aaron Nola (4-4) tossed five-plus innings for the win, becoming the ninth pitcher in franchise history to reach 1,000 strikeouts.
Tyler Naquin homered and drove in two runs for the Reds and Nick Castellanos had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 18 games. Reds starter Sonny Gray (1-4) lasted only 4 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and four runs while striking out eight and walking one.
Diamondbacks 6, Mets 5 (10 innings)
Josh Reddick’s two-run double in the bottom of the 10th gave Arizona a win over New York in Phoenix.
Reddick’s hit off Trevor May (2-2) barely hit the line; it was reviewed by the umpires and the fair-ball rule stood. Eduardo Escobar and Pavin Smith, who had three RBIs, both scored. Arizona, which has lost 14 of its last 16 games, rallied for a run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.
Dominic Smith hit his third home run of the season and Marcus Stroman struck out six without a walk in his six innings for the Mets.
Cubs 4, Padres 3
Patrick Wisdom and Willson Contreras each had two hits and blasted two-run home runs to back right-hander Kyle Hendricks’ fourth straight victory and lift host Chicago over San Diego.
Chicago won for the eighth time in nine games, behind a nine-hit attack. Hendricks (6-4) allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with no walks and four strikeouts.
San Diego has lost three straight for the first time since April 19-21. Manny Machado had two of San Diego’s seven hits.
Orioles 7, Twins 4
Pedro Severino and Maikel Franco homered and Baltimore snapped a 14-game losing streak with a win against visiting Minnesota.
Trey Mancini had two hits and drove in two runs for the Orioles, who had lost 16 straight games to the Twins going back to 2018, which was the longest ongoing losing streak by one MLB team against another.
Kyle Garlick and Willians Astudillo homered for Minnesota.
Yankees 5, Rays 3 (11 innings)
Clint Frazier hit a two-run homer with two outs in the 11th inning for host New York, which snapped a four-game losing streak with a win over Tampa Bay.
After Luis Cessa (1-0) threw a perfect top of the 11th, Miguel Andujar and Brett Gardner grounded out to start the bottom half against Andrew Kittredge (5-1). Frazier hit a 0-1 pitch well beyond the left-field wall for just the Yankees’ fourth hit in their last 38 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Austin Meadows hit a two-run homer in the first and Kevin Kiermaier homered in the fifth for the Rays, who lost for just the second time in 18 games.
Tigers 10, Brewers 7
Jonathan Schoop and Eric Haase hit two home runs apiece and visiting Detroit ended Milwaukee’s five-game winning streak.
Schoop also doubled while driving in three runs and Haase walked twice and scored three runs. Miguel Cabrera supplied a three-run double for Detroit. Willi Castro contributed two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Kolten Wong and Tyrone Taylor each homered twice for the Brewers. Luis Urias added a solo blast. Starting pitcher Eric Lauer (1-2) surrendered seven runs in two-plus innings.
Blue Jays 5, Marlins 1
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a career-best four hits, including a three-run home run and a double, and Toronto defeated Miami in the Blue Jays’ return to Buffalo.
The opener of the two-game set with the Marlins was the Blue Jays’ first game this season at Sahlen Field. They played their first 21 home games in Dunedin, Fla., as pandemic restrictions prevented them from playing in Toronto. The Jays called Sahlen Field home in 2020 as well.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added three hits for Toronto, including a solo home run. Starling Marte had two hits and one RBI for the Marlins, who have lost four in a row and five of their past six.
Indians 6, White Sox 5
Austin Hedges’ two-run homer highlighted a three-run fourth inning and pitcher Shane Bieber completed seven innings, but Cleveland had to hold on against visiting Chicago.
Harold Ramirez had two hits with two RBIs for the Indians, who have won two straight after losing Monday’s doubleheader opener to the AL Central-leading White Sox. Bieber (6-3, 3.08 ERA) was charged with two earned runs plus five hits while walking two and striking out seven over 103 pitches.
Billy Hamilton stayed hot with two RBIs for Chicago, which has lost six of eight on the road. White Sox starter Dylan Cease (3-2, 3.79) entered with a sub-3.00 ERA, but was charged with all six Indians runs, plus eight hits over 3 1/3 innings — matching his shortest start of the season.
Nationals 11, Braves 6
Ryan Zimmerman and Juan Soto each hit home runs to pace a 14-hit attack and help visiting Washington break out of its slump and end a five-game losing streak with a win over Atlanta.
Zimmerman’s two-run homer was part of a four-run rally in the fourth inning and Soto’s two-run shot came in the eighth. Soto went 3-for-4, scored four runs and had four RBIs. Trea Turner had three hits while scoring twice. Ronald Acuna Jr. was 3-for-4 with a homer for the Braves.
But the celebratory mood was dampened by an injury to Washington starter Stephen Strasburg, who left the game after pitching 1 1/3 innings. Manager Dave Martinez said Strasburg experienced tightness in his right trapezius muscle.
Astros 5, Red Sox 1
Rookie right-hander Luis Garcia won his fourth consecutive decision and Houston parlayed a fortuitous seventh inning into a victory over visiting Boston.
Garcia (4-3) allowed one run on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts, tossing a career-high 106 pitches. Jose Altuve hit a leadoff home run and walked three times for the Astros.
In defeat, Garrett Richards (4-4) allowed just two runs and four hits in six innings, striking out five and walking four. Alex Verdugo delivered two hits for Boston.
Angels 8, Giants 1
Anthony Rendon drove in a season-best five runs and pitcher Andrew Heaney contributed to two big innings at the plate with a single and his first career walk as visiting Los Angeles ended San Francisco’s four-game winning streak.
Heaney (3-3), who has spent seven of his eight seasons in the American League, worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run and five hits while striking out seven. Rendon finished with his third three-hit game of the season.
Alex Wood (5-3) was charged with seven runs on four hits and four walks in 3 2/3 innings in the loss. Steven Duggar and Wilmer Flores had two hits apiece for the Giants.
Royals 10, Pirates 5
Andrew Benintendi had two hits, including a grand slam, and five RBIs as Kansas City swept a two-game home series with Pittsburgh in a rout.
Salvador Perez had two home runs and three RBIs for Kansas City. Brady Singer (3-4) picked up the win. He allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six with one walk.
Wil Crowe (0-4) took the loss. He allowed eight runs on eight hits in four-plus innings. The Pirates’ Adam Frazier, who ended May with the most hits (40) in the National League, started June by going 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, a run scored and a walk.
Rockies 3, Rangers 2 (11 innings)
Ryan McMahon scored on a wild pitch in the 11th inning and Colorado handed visiting Texas its seventh straight loss.
McMahon began the bottom of the 11th inning at second as the automatic runner and moved to third on Charlie Blackmon’s groundout. Josh Fuentes was then intentionally walked before McMahon scored on a wild pitch by Brett Martin (0-2) with Brendan Rodgers at the plate.
Texas trailed 2-1 in the eighth inning before Khris Davis tied the game with his one-out, pinch-hit homer off Carlos Estevez.
Athletics 12, Mariners 6
Tony Kemp went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and career-high-tying five RBIs as Oakland snapped a three-game losing streak by rallying to beat host Seattle.
Matt Olson added a home run and three RBIs for the A’s, who hadn’t gone deep since last Wednesday at home against the Mariners. A’s manager Bob Melvin earned his 799th victory, passing Tony La Russa for second in franchise history. Connie Mack holds the record with 3,582.
Taylor Trammell and Tom Murphy homered for Seattle, which had its five-game winning streak come to an end. Trammell was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day when reigning American League Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis was placed on the 10-day injured list with knee issues.
Cardinals 3, Dodgers 2
Edmundo Sosa grounded an RBI single to left field in the ninth inning and St. Louis defeated host Los Angeles.
Right-hander John Gant went six scoreless innings and rookie Dylan Carlson drove in a run, had two hits and made a sliding catch in center field to end the sixth inning with a pair of Dodgers runners in scoring position.
Matt Beaty hit a two-run home run for the Dodgers, who lost for the fourth time in their last five games after winning nine of 10.
