DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — High demand for gasoline for Memorial Day weekend travel in Michigan helped push average prices in the state 12 cents higher than last week at this time.
AAA Michigan reports an average of $3.05 per gallon at the pump for regular unleaded, the highest price since May 2018. These prices are 25 cents more than this time last month and $1.09 more than this time last year.
“Strong demand for Memorial Day weekend helped Michigan gas prices spike to above $3 a gallon and the highest prices for the holiday since 2018,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “If demand slows, we could see prices stabilize through the week.”
Motorists are paying an average of $46 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $7 from when prices were their highest last January.
