DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers won for the second straight night against Kansas City as they defeated the Royals 4-2 in Detroit Wednesday night.
Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs and surpassed Omar Vizquel for the most major league hits by a Venezuelan player. The Tigers also handed Kansas City its 10th straight loss for the Royals’ longest skid since they dropped 10 in a row in 2019.
After giving up two runs in the top of the first, Casey Mize settled down and went six innings to get the win. He is now 2-3. Mize allowed three hits and struck out four. JaCoby Jones and Jeimer Candelario drove in the other runs for the Tigers, who have won three straight.
Spencer Turnbull gets the start for Detroit in this afternoon’s series finale, while Daniel Lynch goes to the hill for Kansas City. The opening pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
The Tigers have placed catcher Grayson Greiner on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Greiner was injured in Tuesday’s win over the Kansas City Royals. Detroit called up catcher Eric Haase to take his place.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Haase, the Tigers placed pitching prospect Franklin Perez on waivers. The club announced Tuesday that Perez would have season-ending shoulder surgery this week.
