ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The search for a new president of Zeeland Community Hospital is over.
On Thursday (May 6, 2021), Spectrum Health, which absorbed ZCH into its system 10 years ago, announced the appointment of Bill Hoefer as market leader for the system’s southwest region, which includes assuming the operational reins of the 57-bed “acute care” facility located near Zeeland’s eastern city limits.
Hoefer comes east from St. Louis, where he had been the Chief Operating Officer of the 700-bed Mercy Hospital South. He has 26 years of health care experience, in hospitals ranging from under 200 beds to his most recent opportunity.
“Bill stood out as a compassionate and dutiful leader with a passion for relationship building.” Spectrum Health West Michigan Senior Vice President for Hospital Operations Chad Tuttle said in a system statement. “He is the right person at the right time to lead Spectrum Health’s efforts on the Lakeshore to improve health, inspire hope and save lives, as well as promote greater health equity across the region.”
“I’m already proud of the accomplishments of Zeeland Community Hospital,” Hoefer was quoted in that Spectrum Health statement. “I see part of my role as helping to celebrate achievements and find new ways to maintain Zeeland Community Hospital’s standing within the community as a trusted partner in health. I’m incredibly excited to meet the team and start contributing to future successes.”
Hoefer replaces Ron Lewis, who left ZCH in January after five years to become President/CEO of the Blanchard Valley Health System in Findlay, OH. ZCH Chief Operating Officer Joe Klesney has been handling the hospital’s president duties in the interim, and will hand the reins over to Hoefer early in June.
This is the second change in the ZCH presidency since the retirement of Henry Veenstra in 2015 after 41 years at the helm.
