DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Gas prices are now nearing $3.00 per gallon now across the state after a nearly 30 cent jump earlier this week, according to AAA.
The prices are nearly a dollar and a half higher than this time last year when Michigan had some of the heaviest pandemic protocols in place. But now people are getting back on the road.
It comes while there is a national shortage of tanker truck drivers, but GasBuddy analyst Patrick DeHaan doesn’t think that will have an impact in West Michigan. He adds the region likely won’t have a fuel shortage, which is something that has been speculated recently, but other areas might.
“I would say West Michigan shouldn’t have a problem. And yes, I think it will vary from place to place.”
As many as 25-percent of drivers have left the business or retired early due to the pandemic. In West Michigan however, Crystal Flash says they have a high demand for drivers and expect to be able to support their needs.
