HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland firefighters are on the scene of a house fire at 255 Orlando Avenue in Holland, then responded to two more fires, according to Holland Fire Capt. Chris Tinney. No injuries were reported.
At the end of the busy day, he’s reminding all community members to make sure working smoke alarms are present and that they are tested monthly.
The first engine arrived at the Orlando Avenue home within 6.5 minutes, according to Tinney.
Firefighters spotted smoke coming from the roof and attic of the single-family home, tracing the fire to the attic area above a bathroom, as it was burning through the roof.
Firefighters were able to stop the damage to the home and, in windy conditions, prevented fire from jumping to nearby home. The work took about three hours, according to Tinney.
The initial investigation of the fire indicates concluded that the fire originated in the attic in proximity to a bathroom vent fan.
Tinney indicated the structure damage totals an estimated $55,000, and firefighters prevented an additional $250,000 in damage.
