WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Hope College women’s basketball teammates Kenedy Schoonveld and Olivia Voskuil have been selected as Great Lakes Region First Team honorees by D3hoops.com.
The two seniors are among five first-team selections and 10 all-region honorees.
Schoonveld also was named co-Great Lakes Region Player of the Year along with John Carroll University (Ohio) forward Nicole Heffington.
Both Schoonveld and Voskuil were catalysts for the Flying Dutch’s run to back-to-back unbeaten seasons with a 16-0 overall record.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Hope College’s Brian Morehouse has been named the D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year.
This season, Morehouse led the Flying Dutch to back-to-back undefeated seasons with a 16-0 record as well as the 19th MIAA regular-season title and 16th MIAA Tournament championship in team history.
Hope also extended its active winning streak to an NCAA Division III-leading 45 games. It is the eighth-longest streak in NCAA Division III history.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Hope College men’s basketball senior Preston Granger has received all-region honors from D3hoops.com.
The forward from Lansing, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS) is one of five second-team honorees and 10 all-region selections overall.
This is the second consecutive Granger claimed all-region honors. A business major, Granger was a third-team selection in 2020.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Unseasonably cold weather drove the Hope College women’s tennis team indoors to take on Saint Mary’s College on Wednesday.
Despite the venue switch, the outcome was still the same. The Flying Dutch downed another MIAA opponent, this time besting the Belles, 7-2, at Hope’s DeWitt Tennis Center.
Hope’s win streak extends to six in a row. The Flying Dutch are 5-0 in the league and 8-2 overall.
At No. 1 singles, Sydney Jackson of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Carroll) defeated Saint Mary’s Megan Davy, 6-0, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, junior Saydee Johns of Holland, Michigan (Holland) topped Saint Mary’s Lucy Chamberlin, 6-3, 7-5.
MEN’S GOLF
In just his second start in the Hope College men’s golf team’s top five, freshman Logan DeWitt led the Flying Dutchmen by carding a two-over 73 in the fifth MIAA Jamboree at the Kalamazoo Country Club on Wednesday. His score tied him for second place individually.
As a team, Hope finished in third place with a total of 302.
Trine University won the match with the lowest team total of 296, followed by Calvin University which shot a 298.
In the overall standings, the Trine Thunder leads the league with a team-low 1,469 strokes while the third-place Flying Dutchmen (1,513) are now just one stroke back of the second-place Knights (1,512).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Hope College women’s soccer team closed the 2021 spring season with a 2-0 loss at Kalamazoo College on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament. The Flying Dutch finished with a 4-2-1 overall record.
Third-seeded Hope looked to repeat the outcome of an April 12 1-0 victory at Kalamazoo during the regular season.
Kalamazoo (5-2 overall) delivered the first-half strike this time with Kai Ketola’s goal in the 28th minute.
