Angie Van Hoven, aged 101, passed away April 17, 2021, at Cook Valley Estates in Grand Rapids, MI.
Angie was a long-time resident of Zeeland, Michigan, and was born and raised on a farm southeast of the town. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1937.
Angie graduated from Blodgett School of Nursing in 1940, served in the Army Reserve Nurse Corps in WWII, and then became a visiting nurse. Angie was the Director of the Visiting Nurse Association in Holland, Michigan, from 1952-56. She owned and operated Woodhaven Skilled Nursing Home in Zeeland beginning in 1956; this facility, now known as Heritage Nursing Home, is still in operation at the same location.
Angie’s love of nursing moved her to fund a Nursing Scholarship Fund with the Holland/Zeeland Community Foundation for students living in Zeeland who wish to enter nursing school.
Angie was a highly talented embroiderer and loved to share her art with family and friends. She was a member of the Grand Rapids Chapter of the Embroidery Guild of America and taught classes through the Guild.
Angie was a charter member of Faith Reformed Church in Zeeland and was a second cousin to the first minister of Faith Church, Reverend Edward Tanis.
Angie was preceded in death by her husband Richard Van Hoven and is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
