LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has joined a coalition of 22 attorneys general across the country to request federal funding that would allow for system upgrades to aid in sealing and expunging criminal justice records.
Nessel said the funding would allow some of the 70 million Americans to have their criminal records cleared or expunged, and would have a positive economic impact as it would clear the way for educational and employment opportunities.
Nessel says that the current system is cumbersome and hard to get through, and the upgrades would significantly reduce the effort needed to make the process easier and fairer.
