OAKLAND, CA (WKZO AM/FM) – Matt Chapman’s two-run double highlighted a four-run sixth inning as the Athletics doubled up the Detroit Tigers 8-4 in Oakland Thursday.
Stephen Piscotty and Matt Olson slugged solo homers for the A’s, who have won five straight and six-of-seven since an 0-and-6 start. Sean Manaea fanned seven over six frames for the win.
Tarik Skubal fell to 0-and-2 for Detroit. Nico Goodrum went 3-for-4 with a home run for the Tigers. The Tigers’ three-game winning streak was snapped with the loss.
Detroit pitchers issued 12 walks in the game, including six in a four-run sixth inning for the A’s.
The four-game series continues tonight as Jose Urena take the mound for the Tigers, while Frankie Montas gets the start for the A’s,
The Tigers have placed outfielder Nomar Mazara on the 10-day injured list with a left abdominal strain. Mazara was injured while batting in the fourth inning of Detroit’s 6-4 win over Houston on Wednesday. To fill the roster spot, the Tigers recalled relief pitcher Joe Jimenez from the taxi squad in Toledo.
