HOUSTON, TX (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers scored three runs in the second and three in the fourth as they tamed the Astros 6-4 in Houston Wednesday night.
Jeimer Candelario had three hits and drove in two runs for Detroit. Robbie Grossman also had a pair of hits and an RBI.
Michael Fulmer got the win after giving up just two runs for the Tigers over five innings. It was his first win since 2018 as Detroit finished a three-game sweep of Houston.
Jason Castro homered for the Astros. Lance McCullers Jr. allowed six runs over three-and-two-thirds innings for Houston, which has lost five straight. Outfielder Nomar Mazara left the game in the fourth inning after suffering an abdominal strain while batting.
Tarik Skubal gets the start for Detroit against Oakland’s Sean Manaea tonight in the first of a four-game series.
The slumping Astros are playing shorthanded. Stars Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman are among five players who were placed on the injured list Wednesday due to COVID-19-related protocols.
The Astros have lost five straight games overall.
