CLEVELAND, OH (WKZO-AM/FM) – Detroit dropped a 4-1 decision at Cleveland in the opener of a three-game series. Scheduled starter Julio Teheran was scratched due to tightness in his throwing arm.
Derek Holland got the spot start and took the loss, lasting 2-2/3 innings and allowing three runs in the first inning. Michael Fulmer had a strong outing out of the bullpen, striking out five over four innings of work.
Offensively, the Tigers couldn’t score off Indians starter and winning pitcher Zach Plesac; over his seven-inning stint, he allowed just three hits with six strikeouts.
Wilson Ramos notched a solo homer in the eighth inning off reliever Bryan Shaw.
