HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Police and firefighters responded to a serious car-truck crash Friday, March 26, 2021 on the northbound lanes of I-196 near the 15 mile marker, about three miles south of the M-140 exit in Van Buren County’s Covert Township.
South Haven Area Emergency Services, dispatched at 5:50 p.m. to the crash scene, found a car pinned under a truck carrying several other vehicles, with both vehicles on fire, according to a SHAES spokesman.
Michigan State Police are investigating the crash, which appeared to involve at least one fatalty, according to officials on the scene. Michigan Dept. of Transportation officials closed the northbound lanes at the Covert exit, for the safety of crash investigators.
Covert Township firefighters and South Haven Police assisted at the scene.
