LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A program that provided an additional 20 weeks of unemployment benefits in Michigan has ended.
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency made the announcement on its website Monday. The Extended Benefits program was mostly federally funded and began in October of 2020. During that time, the state was still in a period of high unemployment.
The program is triggered when the state’s jobless rate averages more than 8% for three consecutive months. But the agency says Michigan’s jobless rate is now below the threshold for it to remain active.
