GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Ruby Rissley, 7, has died after being critically injured when she was hit by a care near her home on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, 2021.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Eric Westveer, Ruby Rissley and her 10-year-old brother were attempting to cross 12th Avenue at Blair Street around 3:45 p.m.. “Northbound traffic was stopped on 12th Avenue due to a train in the area,” Westveer explained in a written statement emailed to media. “The children crossed through the stopped northbound traffic, at which time the victim proceeded into the southbound lane and was struck (by a southbound car).”
The girl, rushed to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, died on Saturday, Feb. 27. Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Ottawa County Sheriff’s department of her death from injuries sustained in the incident. Her older brother, as well as the 37-year-old Wyoming woman driving the vehicle, were not physically hurt in the crash.
The investigation into the incident continues.
