On Saturday January 23rd, 2021, loving husband, father, great-grandfather, uncle and brother, Theodore “Ted” Gray, entered eternal rest at the age of 69.
Mr. Gray was born to Mr. Theodore and Ms. Beulah Mae (McCoy) Gray in Harvey, Illinois on December 21, 1951. As a young man, he loved to go camping and he also enjoyed fishing. Even though Ted loved camping and being outdoors, he was terrified of spiders. One could definitely have a good time with Ted, as he knew how to laugh and joke with a very easy going demeanor. He brought joy to all those in his presence. Mr. Gray enjoyed collecting coins and stamps to name a few. Ted was a man of patience, wisdom, and love and he had a love for his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. He also had the gift of giving and Ted would go out of his way to help anybody in a time of need as he would give you the shirt off of his back. He truly loved his family and extended family. Ted enjoyed 44 prosperous years of marriage with his one and only, the lovely Ms. Deborah Gray. Given his love for the Lord, Ted had a heart for celebrating people and special occasions, especially Mother’s Day, nor did he ever forget Valentine’s Day. Mr. Gray was a hard working provider to his family. He always had a job and always had money. Ted loved driving truck and as his family said, he “drove like Miss Daisy”. On the occasion, Ted would dress to the nines. Everyone knew he was not casual when it came to looking good. He taught his loving children the true essence of hard work and respect. Ted was a father figure and mentor to many young people in his time here on earth. Mr. Gray was also talented in the kitchen and could fry anything, especially gizzards at 12 midnight. Ted could bring people together and never left anyone out. His walk with the Lord was a journey he began later in life. He was not a citizen of this world, he was a man of God, a pilgrim just passing through. Ted was loved by all who knew him and will truly be missed.
Mr. Gray leaves an everlasting and strong legacy, and cherished memories. He leaves here on earth his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and extended family.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday January 29, at the Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street, Holland.
A homegoing service to honor Mr. Gray’s legacy will be held on Saturday, January 30, at 1:00pm, at the Dykstra Funeral Home Mulder Chapel. The ceremony will commence late, to honor and remember Ted’s tendency to never be on time. Pastor Britain Ward will preside over the homegoing service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gray Family.
