Alberta “Babe” Veltman, age 90 of Holland, entered into her heavenly home on Monday, January 18, 2021.
Alberta was born in Grand Rapids on March 10, 1930, to Albert and Ada Vander Wall. As the youngest of nine children, she was given her lifelong nickname, Babe, by her siblings at an early age. Babe graduated from Calvin College with a nursing degree and began working at Butterworth Hospital where she met her husband, Dr. Jay Veltman. After many years working as a nurse, Babe shifted her focus to raising her family.
Babe’s smile and laughter were infectious, and she could always light up a room. She was a talented artist as both a painter and musician. She took great joy in making cards for family and friends as well as cheering on her own children in their artistic endeavors.
Babe is survived by her daughters: Jayne (Kim) Gort, Lora Boogaard, and Beth Veltman; grandchildren: Stacey Farris, Sarah (Mark) Kortman, Abbie (Nate) Petroelje, Sara (David) Gardner, Kelly (Mark) Plaisier, and Michelle (Jack) DeGroot and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Joyce (Marvin) Koets, Donna (Tom) Westra; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jay Veltman in 2017.
