Santiago Vescovi led a balanced offense with 15 points as No. 7 Tennessee rolled to a 73-53 victory over No. 12 Missouri on Wednesday in Columbia, Mo.
The Volunteers (7-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) dominated from start to finish in the league opener for both teams. Yves Pons scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, made two steals and blocked four shots for Tennessee. Pons, the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year, has 84 blocked shots in his past 38 games.
Jaden Springer scored 13 points for the Volunteers, and John Fulkerson added 11. Xavier Pinson led the Tigers (6-1, 0-1) with 11 points.
The Volunteers, the preseason favorite to win the SEC, have won four straight games against the Tigers overall and three consecutive games at Mizzou Arena.
No. 2 Baylor 105, Alcorn State 76
MaCio Teague scored 18 points and Jared Butler added 17 as the Bears built a huge first-half lead and cruised to a win over the Braves in Waco, Texas.
Baylor (8-0) led by 32 points at intermission and stretched its advantage to 44 points, at 80-36, via a 17-0 run that ended at the 10:51 mark of the second half. Alcorn State never got closer than 29 points the rest of the game.
Eleven of the 13 players who saw the court for Baylor scored in the runaway, which was the third 100-plus point game this year for the Bears. Tyree Corbett led all scorers with 24 points with David Pierce adding 13 and Byron Joshua contributing 12 for Alcorn State (0-5).
No. 23 Virginia 66, Notre Dame 57
Kihei Clark tied a season high with 19 points and the Cavaliers never trailed while opening Atlantic Coast Conference play with a victory over the Fighting Irish in South Bend, Ind.
The Cavaliers (5-2, 1-0 ACC) rebounded from a 98-75 loss to top-ranked Gonzaga on Saturday and won their 13th consecutive league opener. Jay Huff contributed 15 points and five rebounds while Sam Hauser scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Nate Laszewski scored a career-high 28 points to help Notre Dame (3-5, 0-2) hang around for most of the game. Juwan Durham added 19 points for the Fighting Irish.
No. 25 Ohio State 90, Nebraska 54
Freshman Zed Key made all five of his field-goal attempts and scored a career-high 14 points as the Buckeyes defeated the cold-shooting Cornhuskers in Columbus, Ohio.
Justin Ahrens came off the bench to score 15 of his 18 points in the second half for Ohio State (8-2, 2-2 Big Ten). He made 6 of 9 shots from 3-point range.
Teddy Allen led the Cornhuskers (4-6, 0-3) with 13 points. Nebraska shot 28.3 percent from the floor and was 5 of 33 (15.2 percent) from beyond the arc.
