HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A carjacking and attempted armed robbery led to a police chase in Allendale just after 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020.
Police arrested one suspect and recovered a gun, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nicholas Knott, but a second suspect is at large, considered armed and dangerous.
Knott described him as a Black male in his early 20s, last seen wearing dark jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt.
He said police were called near the Locale Apartments, 4967 Pierce, on the report that two armed people stole a vehicle from the victim — and a report of an attempted armed robbery nearby by suspects matching the description of the alleged carjackers.
Deputies spotted the stolen vehicle near Jenison and attempted a traffic stop which led to a police chase involving Kent County Sheriff’s deputies and police from Grandville and Wyoming, Knott said.
The vehicle crashed Grandville hitting a tree near Canal and Blackfoot, where the two suspects attempted to flee on foot he said. An extensive search for the second suspect using a K9 was unsuccessful.
Anyone with information is asked to call police or Silent Observer.
