WAYLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 58-year-old Middleville man is dead, after Michigan State Police say his pick-up truck failed to stop at a stop sign in Wayland, and was struck by another vehicle.
Police responded to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 135th Avenue and Fourth Street in Wayland Tuesday at approximately 6:19 p.m.
The preliminary investigation shows the Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Chad Grayling Cole was southbound on Fourth Street, went through the stop sign, and drove into the path of a westbound Ford Taurus driven by 45-year-old Wendy Jo Dunkle from Wayland.
Cole was pronounced dead at the scene. Dunkle sustained non-life-threatening injuries that only required on-scene medical treatment.
Michigan State Police from the Wayland Post were assisted at the scene by Gun Lake Tribal Police, Yankee Springs Township Fire Department, Wayland Fire Department, and Wayland EMS.
Police say neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be involved, and neither vehicle appeared to be speeding.
State police officials say it’s not known what caused Cole to disregard the stop sign.
