The 2020 MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew got right back to work, acquiring veteran goalkeeper Evan Bush in a trade with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Whitecaps will receive $125,000 in general allocation money in exchange, the Crew announced Monday. The deal was completed during Sunday’s half-day trade window.
“We are pleased to welcome Evan to Columbus,” said Crew general manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “Evan is a talented goalkeeper whose significant experience in MLS will be a great addition to our team. We look forward to integrating him into the team and seeing him push our goalkeeping corps as we prepare for the 2021 season.”
Bush, a 34-year-old Ohio native, spent 10 years with the Montreal Impact from 2011-20. He played in 176 MLS regular season games and tallied 40 shutouts and 562 saves. He joined the Whitecaps in a September trade and made eight starts.
“Evan was only with us for a short period of time; however, we are very thankful for his contributions,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps CEO and sporting director. “As part of our conversations in bringing Evan to the club, he expressed his desire to possibly return closer to home at the end of the year. All parties are pleased with this outcome and we wish him all the best in Columbus.”
Bush played collegiately at Akron.
