EAST LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Those waiting for word on whether the fall high school sports season will conclude in Michigan will have to wait a while longer.
The Representative Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association met Wednesday in what’s described as a purely informational meeting, as the association attempts to formulate a plan on the possible finish of the fall seasons for football, girls swimming and diving, and girls volleyball. All three sports are on hold until the expiration of the latest “pause” order from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, which also bans face-to-face instruction in high schools through December 20.
The MHSAA says Executive Director Mark Uyl remains in conversation with representatives of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office, and the Representative Council will meet again December 16 to formulate plans for when school sports are allowed to resume activity.
Tryouts and practices for winter sports are also on hold.
