LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The latest numbers released by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shows more coronavirus deaths over the Thanksgiving holiday in west Michigan, although the daily numbers are lower than the spring.
The newest data released Friday brings the number of total cases to 341,941 and deaths to 8,933 since the virus was first detected in Michigan in March.
Of the 172 deaths reported Friday, 108 of them were found during a routine vital records check.
Ottawa County had the largest increase, with nine new deaths for a total of 131. Calhoun County recorded six new deaths for a total of 115. Kalamazoo County had two more deaths for a total of 158, and Allegan County had one more death for 26 total. Kent County recorded 23 more deaths for 330 total.
The numbers released Friday cover two days’ worth of data because the state did not report numbers Thursday due to Thanksgiving.
