LANSING, MI (WTVB) – With the nation closely watching, the Michigan Board of State Canvassers officially certified the results from the November 3 general election on Monday which officially gave the state’s 16 Electoral College votes to President-Elect Joe Biden.
It also made Democratic U.S. Senator Gary Peters’ re-election victory over Republican challenger John James official.
The Board voted 3-0 to certify the election results. Voting yes were Democrats Jeanette Bradshaw and Julie Matuzak along with Republican Aaron Van Langevelde. Republican Norman Shinkle abstained.
Biden defeated President Donald Trump in Michigan by 154,000 votes. Republican leadership along with supporters of the President and losing G.O.P. Senate candidate John James asked for the panel to delay its vote for two weeks to in order to audit votes in Wayne County which is heavily Democratic.
Republicans claimed fraud during absentee ballot counting at a Detroit convention center but two judges said there was no evidence of that and refused to stop the canvassing process.
